KYF — Know Your Family: User Guide
Release: v0.1.0 • Updated: 2026-09-03
KYF is a friendly family interview and preference engine. The joke is “KYC — Know Your Customer, but KYF — Know Your Family.” The purpose is serious: ask better questions, listen carefully, and make better family decisions without spying or guessing.
Start
- Open KYF.
- Enter a name or nickname and relationship.
- Choose Self mode or Interview mode.
- Answer the 38 questions in the family member’s own words. Suggested chips are examples, not required answers.
- KYF saves progress automatically on this browser so the interview can be continued later.
What the 38 questions cover
Movies and TV, music, food and drinks, colors and style, travel and places, activities, future work and skills, friends, emotional support, respect, family/Jewish traditions, values, surprises and a perfect free day.
Family Compass
Tap Show family ideas. KYF generates transparent suggestions such as movie night, a meal, a gift, a family day, career support, how to help when someone is upset, and which family traditions/values matter. Every suggestion states which answers it used.
Optional media signals
BrightWatcher: watch or save media on BrightWatcher, then import the local signals into KYF. Netflix: download your Viewing Activity CSV from Netflix and import it locally. KYF treats “watched” as evidence of exposure, not proof that the person liked it. Spotify: manual favorite-artist input works now; official OAuth import of top artists/tracks is planned.
Privacy
v0.1.0 stores KYF profiles in browser localStorage only. Answers are not uploaded to WordPress, Supabase, BrightWatcher or an advertising system. Use Export Profile to keep a JSON backup. Delete Profile removes that profile from this browser.
Family rule
Ask, don’t spy. The person being profiled should be able to see, correct and delete the information. KYF is for understanding people, not covert surveillance.
Promotion rule
Future sponsored suggestions must be clearly labeled. Payment can buy visibility, but it cannot change the person’s preference fit or BrightWatcher trust/value evidence.
