KYF — Business / Product Guide

Release: v0.1.0 • Updated: 2026-09-03

Product idea

KYF — Know Your Family is the playful family version of KYC — Know Your Customer. The product helps families learn what people actually like, dislike, hope for, avoid and value, then turns that knowledge into better everyday decisions.

Why it matters

Families often know the big facts but miss the small ones: favorite movie, hated food, perfect weekend, preferred way to receive support, dream job, ideal friend, favorite color or what tradition matters most. KYF makes those conversations easy and repeatable.

Core experience

38-question guided interview → optional media signals → transparent Family Compass suggestions → profile review/export/delete. The interface is intentionally light and conversational rather than clinical.

Decision-engine opportunities

Near-term decisions include movie night, restaurant/meal choice, gifts, trips, activities, learning opportunities, job/career support and how to help someone when upset. Longer term, KYF can research suitable options from approved catalogs and show why each option matched.

Media intelligence

BrightWatcher is the first reusable signal source. Spotify can later contribute permissioned top artists/tracks. Netflix viewing history can be imported by the user from an official CSV export. Other media sources should use the same adapter model: explicit permission, clear provenance, delete/disconnect, and no silent scraping of private accounts.

Commerce / promotion

KYF can support sponsored recommendations and family offers, but adopts the BrightWatcher commercial firewall: buy reach, not credibility or preference. A restaurant, movie, trip, course, retailer or family experience may sponsor visibility only when it passes relevance rules, and the sponsorship label must remain visible.

Potential business model

Free family questionnaire and local profile; optional paid household sync, private family archive, richer recommendation research, recurring “family check-in” interviews, gift/travel planning, and partner offers. Enterprise/white-label versions could serve family offices, schools, camps, elder-care organizations or benefits programs, subject to strong privacy controls.

Trust rules

1) Ask, don’t spy. 2) Family member can review/correct/delete. 3) No hidden sensitive-trait inference. 4) Sponsorship never changes fit. 5) Children’s and family data is not sold to advertisers. 6) Media signals stay optional and explainable.

Roadmap

v0.1: 38 questions, local profiles, Family Compass, BrightWatcher, Netflix CSV. Next: Spotify OAuth, household consent/access model, server-backed encrypted sync, recommendation candidate catalog, feedback (“good suggestion / bad suggestion”), and BrightWatcher-backed media research. Later: family events, gifts, travel, education, jobs and partner promotions with the trust firewall intact.
